The sights are also different, with a broader rear sight and a narrower front sight blade. The SAFN is easier to mount telescopic sights to and the mounts are probably better and more stable than what was available for the M1. . I've taken my Luxembourg contract FN49 to the range at the same time as a Garand for a little head-to-head comparison - no ammo confusion there. One of my LGS's has an FN for 850, but I'm debating going through cmp for one of their M1's for 650, what do you guys think?
